  MEET THE MASTER Common Room 1400hrs-1515hrs, Thursday 22nd March This week, the Meet the Master slot is aimed at parents of pupils in Nest. If you would like to attend, please confirm via email with Ms. Emma Shi (emma.shi@wellingtoncollege.cn) by Wednesday 21st March TALK 4 WRITING IN THE JUNIOR SCHOOL Common Room 0900hrs-1000hrs, Wednesday 21st March Every Wednesday morning from 0900hrs, parents will have the chance to engage with the school in sessions that cover all aspects of your child’s education, from the Early Years to A Levels and university admissions. The venue will vary according to the anticipated audience, and for next week’s meeting, Mrs Yynda Thomas, the Head of Junior School, will introduce to you, how the strategy of ‘Talk 4 Writing’ applies in the teaching and learning practice. University Visit: The University of Manchester Black Box 1000hrs Monday 19th March There will be a visit from the University of Manchester on Monday 19th March at 1000hrs in the Black Box. All pupils in Years 10, 11 and 12 will be attending. As one of the prestigious Russell Group of universities, the University of Manchester is the largest single-site university in the UK with the biggest student community. Parents of pupils in ALL year groups are welcome to attend. University Visit: Hanyang University Black Box 1400hrs, Thursday 22nd March Hanyang University will be visiting our school on Thursday 22nd March at 1400hrs in the Black Box. Hanyang University is one of the leading private research universities of South Korea, especially in the field of engineering. The main campus is in Seoul. The university was established as an engineering institute (DongA Engineering Institute) in 1939 and became the founding facility of Hanyang University with its motto and educational philosophy of Love in Deed and Truth. Hanyang University enrolls over 2,000 foreign pupils each year. This is for parents only. Parents of pupils in ALL year groups are welcome to attend. ASA Thank you to all of the pupils and parents for their support with the ASA this term. Options for ASA in the Summer term will be sent out at the beginning of April. A new range of ASA options will be available. Please note the dates below of when the ASA will finish this term: Junior School ASA will finish on March 15th This is due to the musical production rehearsals and shows. Senior School ASA will finish on March 22nd   World Scholars Cup Competition It is time for our Wellington scholars to compete in yet another exciting regional round of the World Scholars Cup competition. This Friday will see Leo, Eric and Caleb, travel to Dulwich College Beijing for two days of team debate, including collaborative writing, the scholars challenge and the scholars bowl. This is one of our strongest teams yet, and we hope to arrive home with another hoard of medals and an invitation to the Kuala Lumpur Global round in June. Reminder: Parent Briefing on Wednesday 21st March – Talk 4 Writing, all Junior school parents are actively invited to attend. Open Morning for Years 1 to 6 on Thursday 22nd March – please register your interest with Ms. Polly Zhang at polly.zhang@wellingtoncollege.cn. Parents will not be allowed to attend the open morning unless they register.   Year 5’s took part in a letter writing topic earlier in the first term, where the children sent letters to Wellington College in Shanghai. The photos show the pupils receiving the replies from Shanghai, with each letter individually addressed to them by the Shanghai pupils. The children were really excited about it – nothing beats the old-fashioned thrill of receiving a real letter! Positive Parenting Class (basic) MB125 0930hrs-1130hrs every Monday Charges: 30RMB/time or 200RMB/8 times Positive Discipline is a programme designed to teach young people to become responsible, respectful and resourceful members of their communities. Based on the best-selling positive discipline book by Dr Jane Nelsen, it teaches important social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults. Parents will learn to avoid power struggles while helping their children to learn self-control and self-discipline. Classes are in a small group setting, allowing deeper discussions and very personalized experience. www.positivediscipline.com Art Class Junior Art Room 0830hrs-1100hrs every Friday  Dear Art Appreciators, Exploring Chinese traditional paintings as one of the oldest continuous Art traditions helps us realize so many things about Chinese culture. From meticulous to free style paintings, we will be discovering different ways of perceiving the world. Come and join us in celebrating our first trials in so many techniques, from Chinese watercolors to ink wash. As always, balance is so important for our self-control, in art as well as in life. Win (or fight for) your piece of freedom in the Art Room every Friday. You deserve it. Art is a real link of our lives. Reconnect yourself! Art always helps as a best friend.   Lower Level EAL Class MB 235 0830hrs-0930hrs every Tuesday  This class is for beginner level learners who would like to improve their grammar, vocabulary and all-round language skills. Higher Level EAL Class MB 231 1100hrs-1200hrs every Thursday This class is for more confident learners who would like to extend their grammar and vocabulary and will have a focus on improving spoken fluency. Pilates Dance Studio 0900hrs-1000hrs every Tuesday  Dance Studio 0930hrs-1030hrs every Friday Pilates is a physical exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates. It is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit. Pilates focuses on core strength and balanced muscle development as well as flexibility and increased range of motion for the joints. So, don't hesitate, join our classes and feel better. You are warmly welcomed. WCA Yoga Dance Studio 0900hrs-1000hrs every Wednesday  Welcome to our newly introduced yoga classes at Wellington College. Yoga philosophy and practice has its origin in India. The word ‘Yoga’ comes from the word “yuj”, which means "to yoke", to unite your body and mind. Regular yoga practice helps your body to become strong, flexible, balanced and healthy. The same will happen with your mind. Yoga has become very popular all around the world for its healing benefits. It does not matter if you are new to yoga or a regular practitioner; everyone is welcome.
