The Week Ahead 26 March 2021

26 Mar 2021

Dear parents

This will be a slightly shorter piece from me this week as you will receive the Annual Review report and results of the recent full parents' survey through the usual school communication channels. All that is left for me this term is to reflect once more on the enormous energy and hard work of our pupils and staff over the past three months. We have celebrated the remarkable successes of our year 13 university applicants (with more news to come from US colleges in the weeks ahead), enjoyed a brilliant musical show in Grease, and seen solid progress made in classrooms from Eaglets to year 13. The term ahead promises to see a further return to the pre-pandemic situation in school, with parents and visitors once more able to come into school more freely. There will still be some restrictions, of course, but I know how much parents appreciate the chance to spend time in the school's communal areas, so it will be great to see more parents in person.

Finally, I would like to use this chance to remind parents and friends of Wellington of some of the summer term's highlights:

Catering is launching a dedicated vegetarian line for pupils from the beginning of the Summer term. This line is exclusively for pupils who have registered as vegetarians or vegans, and they should not use other catering lines. Nest Sports Day
Friday, April 9th

The PE department is looking forward to holding the Nest Sports Day on the morning of Friday April 9th. Although the event could not go ahead last year, we are very hopeful that it will be better than ever this year. Our youngest children will be playing various games, such as the traditional egg and spoon race and javelin throw. In such games, they have a chance to show us the physical skills they have been developing in their PE lessons. Parents are warmly invited to come along and watch. The event will take place from 0900hrs – 1030hrs on the sports pitch. If you would like to come along and support, please inform your child's class teacher through the usual channels. We look forward to seeing you there.

Celebrations for the Senior School Football Teams

The Senior School football season has commenced, and both boys' and girls' teams have started very strongly. The boys triumphed over a very physical TEDA team 8-2, with the most valuable player (MVP) Jurek scoring a hattrick. Daniel also scored three goals, and Yeunhae, with two, completed the scoring. TIS were our next opponents, and both teams played a thrilling match that eventually ended 2-2, TIS twice coming back from behind. TIS arrived with two teams, and in the B team game, they were 3-1 winners, with Adam in Year 10 scoring the only goal for Wellington. The girls also played TIS, and, similarly to the boys, their game was a score draw, 1-1. MVP Mimi, also in Year 10, scored the goal for Wellington. All three teams will head into the ISCOT tournament, hosted at Wellington on April 19th, full of confidence.
