How does a positive relationship between children and teachers helps children's development?

At Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin-Nursery, we aim to maintain a positive relationship between teachers and children. Our goal is to develop a positive relationship so that teachers and children trust each other. This helps children's development in their social and emotional skills. A positive relationship builds a solid foundation that helps children develop good manners, independence, confidence, and reading skills.

The relationship between children and teachers needs to be warm, authentic and respectful so that children feel safe and secure to take risks in their learning, ask questions and develop the ability to manage their feelings and behaviour. Daily routines, familiar learning environments and well-planned transitions support attachments to the adults who teach them as well as build parts of the brain which develop language and communication.

At Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin, we adopt the Learning and Development Guide published by the Ministry of Education of China, and aspects of learning for pupils is also informed and inspired by the Early Years Foundation Stage from the UK (EYFS). The educational experience at Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin is a play-based approach to learning where the outcomes and characteristics of eff ective learning are fostered.

The ways in which a child engages with other people and their environment – playing and exploring, active learning, creating and thinking critically – underpin learning and development across all areas which supports the child to remain an eff ective and motivated learner.
