We are Wellington | Parent's Talk

#WeareWellington# In this Series, the Nest invites pupils, parents and staff from the Wellington community to share their experiences, impressions and time spent in Wellington, and ultimately what Wellington education means to them. Today, we are very honoured to invite Ruby's mother to share her feelings and experiences in the Nest.

Parent's Talk: Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin Nursery has an excellent team of teachers. I think it is a right choice for the development of children’s language skills.

What made you chose Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin Nursery?

My children have been in nurseries with three different kinds of educational system. I think each kind of system has its own strength and advantage, but for me, providing a bilingual environment for my child matters the most. The importance of bilingualism is widely agreed. That children can develop their language skills in Early Years greatly and bilingual education will be extremely helpful. This prepares the children for their future learning journey and growth, and even helps them to understand the world better. That’s why we finally chose Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin Nursery after research.

My child surprised me so many times after she joined Wellington. One day after my child joined the Nest for 3 months, when I didn’t feel very well and was lying in bed, my daughter was riding a scooter and suddenly came to me and said in English, “Look mom, I’m stuck.” I was so surprised that my daughter knew such difficult vocabulary already. I didn’t think she could learn the words and how to use it from class. It must be taught by the environment. When she was in such an environment, she learned new vocabulary without noticing it. Therefore, I think it is a right choice for the development of children’s language skills.

Were there any other reasons why you chose Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin Nursery?

Wellington College Bilingual Tianjin Nursery has an excellent team of teachers. Both Western teachers and local teachers are well trained and very experienced. They all have degrees in education and speak fluently English or Chinese. Outstanding teachers can be an advantage of our nursery. When the children are learning with the teachers, the teachers are also helping them to develop as people. When children grow up, they might come across all kinds of problems and difficulties, but with our experienced teachers supporting them, as a parent I won’t have to worry about anything.

As a parent, do you think you learned something as well?

I’m very happy that Wellington helps parents’ personal development by offering opportunities for us to communicate and learn from each other. Here we meet parents from different countries. From them we have learned a lot about traditions and culture in other countries. Wellington also provides an organisation called FOW (Friends of Wellington).

Meanwhile, by making friends with people from different countries and learning about their culture, the parents are also developing themselves while their children are growing up. The parents and children are experiencing the environment that children will be exposed to in the future. The parents will have opportunities to know the difficulties and challenges that children will come across in advance so that we can be well prepared and support children better.
