Festival of Education 2019 | More Headliners Announced

The Wellington College China Festival of Education 2019 promises to be the best of what is now an annual event that celebrates, debates and explores education and the place it has in a rapidly changing world. Following the opening event in Shanghai, the festival will then move to Wellington College Hangzhou, and to Wellington College Tianjin on 19-20th April.  The Festival of Education brings together the industry’s most forward-thinking minds, practitioners of change, policy makers, and teachers, at one of the leading forums for thought leadership, CPD and debate.  With more than 40 expert speakers delivering over 90 presentations, talks and workshops spanning seven days and dispersed over three different cities, the 2019 festival is an event that will inspire debate, encourage the sharing of knowledge, and advocate international ‘best practice’. Whether you are a parent, an educator or someone who is interested in teaching and learning, there is plenty on offer during the festival. Educators who attend the Shanghai event can request a certificate of attendance as part of their professional development.  

Headline Speakers (Cont.) | 2019

The Wellington College China Festival of Education never fails to provide an inspiring line-up and this year is no different. Alongside over 20 speakers, we are also delighted to host the following headliners:  
Professor Feng Wanqi, Tianjin Conservatory of Music deputy director, associate professor, member of the International Federation of Piano Societies, member of the Piano Society of the Chinese Musicians Association, the State Fund for Overseas Studies appointed the first Chinese piano doctor trained by the Russian National Gernising Conservatory of Music. As the first Chinese to successfully hold a solo concert at Greenka Concert Hall in Moscow. She has been invited to judge international and domestic piano competitions many times. She will talk about 'Music through education'.
Luyi is the University Guidance Counsellor at Wellington College International Tianjin. She spent over eight years working in Canada. She first worked as an ESL teacher in a secondary school in Vancouver and then became an academic counsellor helping pupils with university applications and career placement. There, she had helped many Canadian and international students to receive offers from many world top tier universities. She will share her experiences in international students’ North American university application tips with all the EdFest audiences. 
Qian Xu, an EAL teacher in the Senior School at Wellington College International Tianjin. She is the chapter author of the book, Mandarin Chinese Teacher Education: Issues and Solutions and one of the guest speakers in its book launch. She always aims to create a learner-friendly environment in multilingual classrooms in order to facilitate language learning. She will share Scaffolding native Chinese speakers in English language learning with all the EdFest audiences. 
 
Dr Yang Yang, Deputy head of Wellington College International Tianjin, brings to the post a wealth of experience in leading young people through an education with international emphasis. Dr Yang’s own educational background reflects her enthusiasm for education. She will talk about the essential skills for future success.
Yang Zhou, Head of Mandarin of Wellington College International Tianjin. She holds two certificates in teaching Chinese as an additional language. She also has rich experience in teaching Chinese in many countries. She will talk about 'How motivate and enhance students by literature learning'.
These outstanding presentations, plus a debate about the possibilities for technology in education, and a host of other important educational issues, will all come together to give the festival a dynamic and diverse character. In addition, negotiations are well under way to bring in other speakers with interesting, unconventional and controversial things to say about education – more news on them when their participation is confirmed.
