7 days Countdown | Annual Musical Production - Grease
This March, Wellington College International Tianjin will be performing the classic 1971 musical, Grease. It will be performed entirely by the pupils.

The title ‘Grease’ is named after a working-class teenage subculture from the 1950s United States known as ‘greasers’ and the musical’s setting is the fictional Rydell High School in the year of 1959. The storyline follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics and (of course) young love. We chose this musical due to its popularity but also the timeless themes of love, loss and friendship.
Grease the School Edition is a lively and funny musical comedy by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs. Since its electric Broadway and West End debut in the early 1970s, Grease has remained one of the world’s most popular and enduring musicals. Its fun-loving spirit and immortal songs, including ‘Greased Lightnin’’, ‘Hopelessly Devoted to You’, ‘You’re The One That I Want’, and ‘Summer Nights’, make it a favourite among rock and roll fans of all ages.
This year, Wellington College Tianjin’s musical has been a complete collaboration between the two directors – Ms. Shih-shih, Chen, Director of Music and Ms. Louise Chapman, English Teacher combining their respective expertise in drama and music. As for the pupils, they have excelled themselves this year, working hard at coordinating their hand-jives and Cha-Cha steps, navigating the technicalities of the vocal work and learning to look ‘cool’ in a leather jacket!
Given the recent trying times of the pandemic, we sincerely hope that our production of Grease will be the perfect antidote to the gloom and bring a spark of fun into your lives.
