"A reader lives a thousand lives; the person who doesn’t read lives only one."
——George R.R. Martin
At Wellington College Tianjin, we believe reading should be a joy, not a chore. To foster a lifelong love of books, we’ve implemented engaging strategies that make reading an exciting adventure for our pupils.
1. Creating an Inviting Reading Space
A cosy reading nook with cushions and carefully selected books invites our youngest learners to curl up with a good story. The more welcoming the space, the more eager children are to dive into books.

2. Making Reading Interactive
During World Book Week, award-winning authors visit our school to inspire young readers and writers. Pupils get the unique opportunity to ask questions, receive writing advice, and even discuss beloved book characters. These interactions deepen comprehension and spark creativity, encouraging children to craft their own stories.

3. Exploring New Genres Through Fun Activities
This year, our Reading Picnic introduced pupils to books they might not have picked up otherwise—some were pleasantly surprised by how much they enjoyed historical fiction! Additionally, our Book Fairs let students choose new reads with friends, turning book selection into a shared adventure.

4. Choosing Age-Appropriate Books
Starting with the right book is key. When the content is relatable and the reading level is just right, children can focus on the joy of the story rather than struggling with difficulty.

If your child isn’t sure where to begin, we’ve prepared a summer booklist tailored to each division in Wellington. These curated selections help every pupil find their next favourite read.
Wishing you a splendid summer filled with literary adventures!
