Growing Roses in the Magic Garden

The Magic Garden at the Nest is buzzing with joy and curiosity of kids from all age groups: Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Reception, and Year 1. Their first adventure in planting roses has transformed our garden into a vibrant outdoor classroom, offering beauty and countless learning moments.
Our Pre-Nursery children are just settling in and finding happiness in simply watering the plants, an activity that brings them closer to nature. For Nursery and Reception children, planting roses is a sensory delight. They love feeling the dirt on their fingers, breathing in the fresh earth, and admiring the bright colours of blooming roses. These activities spark their senses and help them develop important fine motor skills as they handle small gardening tools and plant seeds. This early connection to nature helps cultivate a sense of responsibility and care for the world around them.
As the children move into Year 1, their gardening projects take on a more structured and educational approach. They begin to learn about the essentials that plants need to grow—sunlight, water, and nutrients. Watching the different stages of a rose’s life cycle teaches them patience and an appreciation for nature’s wonders.
The magical experience of planting roses has brought together all age groups in a shared learning journey. The garden is a testament to their combined efforts, creating a special educational space where hands-on activities and learning concepts flourish side by side. This project not only enhances critical thinking and motor skills but also nurtures values like teamwork, patience, and environmental stewardship.
In our Magic Garden, every rose planted symbolizes growth in knowledge, skills, and appreciation for the natural world. As the roses thrive, so do our children, each blossoming with newfound insights and experiences.
