About the Story
This is a wonderful story for very young children. It supports them in developing their spoken languages in Mandarin and English. It is about a teddy bear who plays a shopping game. He buys different objects and then puts them in his shopping bag. As the story moves on he has put ten objects he finds in his bag, but, oh no! He has a hole in the bag and he loses all the objects and has to start the game again! To enhance the children’s learning and to learn new vocabulary in English we use props to support the language using very simple words and repeating the language.
This story can also develop the very early skills of counting and mathematical language, such as “How many?” “What number comes next?” The children can begin to use subsisting by saying how many objects there are in the bag without counting, by saying the number or by showing how many fingers. You can use the same idea with hands-on experiences when you go shopping and the children can find the different objects and name and count how many there are of them before putting them into the basket.
