Into the Classroom | Pre-Nursery's First Few Weeks at School
The Eaglets' class has been open for five weeks and it has been an amazing experience for all children who are starting formal education for the first time.
Each child's experience has been different, with some adjusting quickly while others take more time. However, all the children have been able to settle in well thanks to the parents’ supportive encouragement, the gentle guidance of their teachers, and the nurturing environment of the classroom, every child has been able to settle in comfortably.
During the initial weeks, the focus was on familiarizing the children with classroom procedures and routines. Furthermore, the children were allowed to explore various materials and resources, which helped them discover their interests and dislikes, ultimately promoting independence in their learning process.
We started our learning adventure with the theme "My Family and Me". This theme helped children learn more about themselves and their families. They had fun exploring their body parts and talking about their families. They even created a special Family Tree in class using their colourful handprints. The children brought in family photographs, which were proudly displayed on the tree—a beautiful way for each child to share their unique family story.
As part of their holistic development, the children had the opportunity to engage in sensory games and activities. One standout activity was pretend cooking, where real food items like soft Chinese noodles, cabbage, broccoli, and green peas were used. This play-based approach brought joy to the children and honed their fine motor skills. For instance, they practised peeling pea pods, an activity that also improved their dexterity and involved counting and sorting.
We strongly believe that with Pre-Nursery’s nurturing environment, our little learners are well on their way to building a strong foundation for their educational journey ahead.
