The school environment felt brand new to the children, some have never been into a kindergarten before. Our themed activities helped to build the children’s confidence, manage their emotions and support them in developing friendships. Building a healthy rapport with each other, as well as with their teachers, help the children to feel safe and cared for, while ensuring a seamless transition to a new learning environment.
Looking in the mirror and Drawing self-portraits
The outdoor classroom activities provided a perfect solution for active learning. Children had opportunities to engage in collaborative learning which helped to promote communication and confidence in language. Sand play activities involved digging in the sand to create rivers hence expanding their imagination, creative skills and general, yet secure understanding of the world.

Watering the outdoor plants enlightened our childrenabout environmental conservation and the importance of nurturing nature andbeing socially responsible global citizens. There were also instances when thechildren ventured out to explore nature. Autumn was a very conducive weatherfor the children to explore characteristics, such as trees shedding leaves andleaves changing their colours. They engaged in a colour mixing activity, paintingand drawing to widen their understanding of colour change. Children cut andshaped the fallen autumn leaves into different sizes and in the processdeveloped both gross and fine motor skills.
Mixing up colors and Making mud drink
Self-awareness is an important aspect that we also foster in nursery. To develop this, children participated in an activity that involved them looking into a mirror while drawing and painting images of their faces. This helped them to learn more about their body parts. Exploring the five senses, through multi-sensory activities, is also another key focus in our curriculum. By smelling different types of plant scents, children became aware of the sense of smell.
