Eaglets into the virtual classroom
It has been a busy time e-learning for Eaglets! We understand that working online for young children is not an easy task and we thank our families for all the support they give to the children.
The children and families were given an online demonstration of how to make playdough, so they were well equipped for making dough sea creatures. Making dough is an excellent way to use mathematics in a real-life context. It is also messy and fun to do! The children had been finding out about the octopus. They made some wonderful dough creations at home.
There were a lot of opportunities planned for children to focus on their fine motor skills. They had activities that needed them to use scissors to cut safely and carefully. Using one-handed tools is part of our assessment for physical development and this didn’t stop just because we are e-learning. The children also had lots of activities that needed them to use pencils and crayons to mark-make. This supports them to develop their pincer grip to use pens and pencils with increasing control to progress from mark-making to forming recognizable shapes that ultimately become letters and numbers.
For mathematics, the children have focused on 1:1 correspondence when counting objects as well as rapid retrieval of objects when asked for a specific number. This supports children to be able to recognize patterns in objects as they are in front of the children and find the accurate number quickly. They are also learning to recognize when you add more objects, the number increases.
This week we are still learning online. So, the Eaglets team are taking the children on a journey to explore sound. Tuning into sounds and being able to distinguish between different sounds is also known as phonological awareness. This forms the foundation for learning and understanding phonics when they are older.
The children can look forward to lots of listening games such as guessing the instrument, what vehicle makes this sound and much more. They will also have the opportunity to make their instrument.
Eaglets have a busy time ahead whether we are e-learning or in school. There is a lot to find out about the world around us, so let’s enjoy the journey together.
